ASUS P5KC "no keyboard detected" | Joachim De Zutter
Motherboard: ASUS P5KC
Problem description: PS/2 keyboard is not working after reboot although it functioned perfectly before that, no hardware changes were made, but the screen may have been disconnected/reconnected while using the computer.
Error message: No keyboard detected
The error message is displayed under the AMI BIOS logo.
A sporadically flashing red light next to the nVIDIA GeForce 7300LE PCIE 256MB 64BIT DDR2 TV-OUT/DVI graphics card indicates that it is improperly connected, so it was removed and it was attempted to put it back in place properly.
There was no more red light but 1 long and 3 short beeps on restart still indicate a failure.
The memory was removed and reinserted into the 2 white slots.
The graphics card was reseated properly.
A CMOS reset was performed by removing and reinserting the CR2032 battery.
The keyboard led was working. The keyboard leds flash during the POST. The keyboard works.
Apparently the video card on this motherboard is very sensitive to minor movement of the screen connector, which in turn caused a keyboard failure.
